Visit from the Fritz's

My mom and step-father decided to come out over Christmas break this year.  The boys were so excited to have grandma and grandpa out here.  As was I, since I could tell them in person that we were moving back to Nebraska.  They flew into Sacramento on Wednesday and that is when we told them the good news.  Both were so excited and surprised by the news.

We also did a lot of sight seeing since my step-father, Darwin, had never been to California.  On Thursday, we drove into San Francisco and took a cable car up to Lombard Street (which boasts to be "The Most Crookedest Street in the World" but there is one other called Snake Alley in Burlington, IA).  I think my parents could have done without Lombard Street but hey, it was the 1st stop off of the cable car and we were pressed for time.
After Lombard Street, we hopped back on the cable car to go back down to the Piers.  We grabbed a bite to eat from a street vendor (very yummy clam chowder soup) and headed off to catch a ferry to go tour Alcatraz Island and Prison.

Once done with Alcatraz, we took them through Fisherman's Wharf (Pier 39) and then came back home.  To say the least, we had a pretty busy day.

We had a good Christmas with an awesome dinner of Prime Rib.  Kids opened up gifts and just relaxed most of the day.

We did some more sight seeing on December 27th.  We drove over to Muir Woods to take a look at the redwoods and sequia trees.

After walking through the forest, we then set out for the Golden Gate Bridge.

My mom and step-father left on Tuesday to head back to Nebraska.  It was hard saying good-bye (as it always is).  At least this time, we know when we are going to see them again. :)
